WINTER WEATHER: Crews made strides today but some slick spots remain in Eastern Oklahoma, on I-35 near Texas and on I-40 to Arkansas. Watch for "black ice" overnight which resembles wet pavement but is a thin layer of ice #okwx https://t.co/RdrsF1FuwB

For I-30 Eastbound: There were two stalled Commercial Motor Vehicles that had to be pulled out of the road earlier, so there was a period of time where traffic was not being let through. It's open and moving. Our crews will be treating everything again.

I-30 in Saline County is very backed up.
We are diverting traffic off I-30 Westbound so we can get crews in to clear and treat it.
We are diverting traffic off I-30 W at two points: Exit 114 to Hwy 67 through Glen Rose, Exit 111 to Hwy 70 through Hot Springs.

Fun fact: Road Graders are pretty effective at clearing snow. In times like these, they get called up to the big leagues to assist our fleet of traditional snow plows. 🤝 https://t.co/kXkHu10ID4

When it gets really cold, we use additives in our salt brine solution to make it more effective. Sometimes it's beet juice, sometimes it's a step beyond that with something such as calcium chloride.
Some crews have begun using calcium chloride to fight this ice and snow. https://t.co/8Y9tzhAPRA
